Jackie Creates Jobs
- Jackie created Federal City in New Orleans to save 2,000 jobs, a $4.5 billion military industry, and to create 10,000 new, high-paying federal and civilian jobs over the next decade.
- Jackie was the first co-author on the state movie tax credits that have brought jobs for New Orleans’ middle-class families and made New Orleans “Hollywood South.”
- Jackie authored the first genetics testing bill in Louisiana, which helped lay the groundwork for a biomedical indsutry in New Orleans. She serves on the boards of Tulane and LSU’s Cancer Center and has fought aggressively for a thriving biomedical economy that will bring thousands of high-paying jobs to our City.
Jackie Tackles Crime
- Jackie worked with neighborhoods and good government groups to give our police new tools to fight misdemeanor crimes, enabling them to focus time and resources on the violent, felony offenders who plague our streets and neighborhoods.
- Jackie has consistently led the fight to fund the entire criminal justice system – including the District Attorney, the Public Defender, the Police, and the Courts. This funding has made possible witness protection programs, cold case investigations, and diversionary programs that free up court space for violent offenders.
- Jackie reformed the committee that reviews blighted property to help police identify blighted “hot spots.”
Jackie Stands For Honest Government
- Jackie fought corrupt practices by authoring and leading the charter change to protect and give autonomy to the Office of the Inspector General and, with other councilmembers, instituted an Independent Police Monitor.
- Jackie stood up again insider dealing by leading the successful battle for a master plan for development in New Orleans.
