Raising taxes never leads to higher economic activity. With housing already crippled, raising property taxes is a further disincentive to buidling and renovating. Everyone in the real wolrd is cutting back. Why can't government do the same. The sanitation charge goes up though new lesser priced contracts were negotiated, a good move, but why wasn't that savings passed on to the citizens. Instead, the rate goes up. Now there will be less money for people to spend so sales tax revenue will go down. Has anyone figured out the net net of that?

I feel SDT's contract should also be rebid. They DIDN'T reduce their rate by 25%,but agreed the number of customer they had been serving was 25% less. The IG has stated he wants the City to be reimbursed. Me too.

The Myth/Fact sheet says the appointment of the 13 officials will be transparent. WHO ARE THE OTHER 6? It only lists the 7 governmental. As we know, the city council has consistently voted to de-fund NORD (particularly Fielkow), so one council member and 6 unknown "community members" (business owners? "private partners?") makes a majority.

I've worked occasionally for N.O.R.D., as well as R.S.D. (where another member of the council will be from). N.O.R.D. does a lot with very little resources. R.S.D. meanwhile gives school after school over to charters (Vallas actually quoted numbers on these schools - the schools he's not running - as success stories on NPR analysis, ignoring the failing facts on the schools he is still running).

A council that votes to de-fund NORD consistently then decries its failure is a joke. If there is to be transparency, let's make it real transparency of members and objectives. We want to be sure that a "private/public partnership" doesn't mean what it usually means: our money going to private companies, while the poorest communities lose again.

I am trying to fix up my house at 428 Wagner Street for my granddaughter, but the blighted home at 424 is a hazard. It is collapsing and wild animals (including snakes) have been seen coming from the house.
This property at 424 Wagner in Algiers has been reported and posted, but the owner has taken no action. What can be done?
