For generations, Fleur de Lis Park in Lakeview has been a haven for the youth of the neighborhood. So when a for-sale sign appeared in the park late last month, the outcry from residents was loud and immediate. Now, it appears, City Hall, including Mayor Mitch Landrieu and the City Council, is on the neighbors’ side.

Times Picayune – Representing the city of New Orleans were New Orleans City Council president Arnie Fielkow and Council Vice President Jackie Clarkson, who welcomed the audience. They presented Novoselsky with a proclamation from the city of New Orleans, recognizing the accomplishments and contributions of America’s Jewish War Veterans.

Times Picuyune – “You can argue semantics all day long, but this is obviously a violation of the intent of the charter,” said City Council Vice President Jackie Clarkson. She makes a good point. The charter clearly envisions the council having a say in hiring firms that will represent the city’s legal interests. The Nagin administration’s actions have negated that role.

Times Picayune – Clarkson, a Realtor for four decades, said she doesn’t think city government needs a new home while residents around the city wait for street lights — and, in some neighborhoods, for grocery stores and other necessities. Clarkson also added: “Chevron should donate this building and take it as a tax write-off.”
