The New Orleans City Council will meet tomorrow for a regularly scheduled Council meeting. Among the agenda items to be addressed are:
* Ordinance to establish the New Orleans Recreation Development Commission, to provide for membership composition and length of terms of members to the Commission (scheduled to be addressed at 1 p.m.)

“The Council is the financial custodian of the City,” Clarkson said. “We have a responsibility to check and balance the City’s financial processes – including RFPs, especially those involving significant amounts of taxpayer dollars and those that have the potential to be renewed.”

“There are some good arguments for why councilmembers should receive a pay raise to adjust for yearly increases in the cost of living. But I do not believe that now is the appropriate time, nor can I in good conscience vote to increase pay for a position I expect to hold again during the next four years.”

Times Picuyune – “You can argue semantics all day long, but this is obviously a violation of the intent of the charter,” said City Council Vice President Jackie Clarkson. She makes a good point. The charter clearly envisions the council having a say in hiring firms that will represent the city’s legal interests. The Nagin administration’s actions have negated that role.

Times Picayune – City Council Vice President Jackie Clarkson, who signed a letter Tuesday calling on the council’s lawyer to review the practice and consider legal remedies, also refused to accept the administration’s argument. “You can argue semantics all day long, but this is obviously a violation of the intent of the charter,” she said.
