December 27, 2010 The Algiers Development District (ADD) Chairman Jeff Arnold, along with ADD Board members District “C” Councilmember Kristin Gisleson Palmer and Tyrone Casby, began the planned demolition of the blighted Fox Playground, which is located right beside the new L.B. Landry High School on L B Landry Drive in Algiers.
This demolition is a Blight Remediation project totally funded by the Algiers Development District and led by ADD Board members Councilmember Kristin Gisleson Palmer and Tyrone Casby.
Councilmember Jackie Clarkson attended the demolition because she was in attendance when the pool was originally built. She and others had hoped to bring the playground and pool back to its intended purpose after it began to deteriorate over the past several years. Clarkson said, “Some of us have worked to bring it back, but it was Kristen Palmer who was able to put together the team to get the work done. Thanks to Councilmember Palmer’s leadership, the team of NORD, LB Landry, and ADD are returning the site to a productive field for L.B. Landry High School and a playground for NORD.” Palmer has led the coordination between the school and the recreation department.
“This was done in an effort to improve the quality of life of the children who attend L.B. Landry High School, the newest school in Algiers,” said Chairman Arnold. Although the park is still a NORD facility, it can also be used by the school.
“We wanted to get this done before the children returned from holiday break,” said Councilmember Palmer. “This is a real win for our children and our community.”
The demolition work will continue for 3 days.
