New Orleans, LA – The Council considered the Mayor’s Office, the Historic Landmarks Commission, and new initiatives in information technology in budget hearings today.
All departments considered during today’s budget hearing, which began at 10 a.m. in the City Council Chamber, fall under the “result areas” of Innovation and Open and Effective Government.

The Council emphasized the importance of proper management, efficiency and customer service at City Hall, as well as the need for improvements in the city’s information technology system.

Presentations by the Mayor’s Office of Community Development, Law Department, Finance Department, Civil Service, and the Office of the Inspector General have been postponed to a later date. Postponed meetings can be found on the full budget schedule here.
This year, the City’s budget presentation and hearing format follow the “Budgeting for Outcomes” model, which is organized by “result area” rather than department. The Council’s budget hearings are organized thematically around the following result areas: Children and Families, Economic Development, Innovation, Sustainable Communities, Open and Effective Government, and Public Safety.
The next budget hearing is scheduled for Wednesday, November 3 at 10 a.m. in the Council Chamber. The hearing will be led by the Budget and Governmental Affairs Committees and will continue to address the Open and Effective Government result area.
