New Orleans, LA – November 2, 2008 – Council President Jacquelyn Brechtel Clarkson will lead a diverse coalition of New Orleanians at a Monday, November 3 press conference to tout the merits of an amendment to the City’s charter that would mandate a Master Plan with the force of law. The issue is on the November 4 ballot. The press conference will be held at 11:00 a.m. on the steps at City Hall on the Perdido Street side.
“The coalition behind this proposition reflects the face of New Orleans – black and white, Uptown and Downtown, business leaders and community leaders,” Clarkson said. “We are all united behind the idea that it’s time to get the politics out of planning in New Orleans.”
Clarkson and other proponents of the proposed charter change – including State Senator Ann Duplessis, Councilmembers Stacy Head and Shelley Midura, local ministers, members of the business community, and neighborhood leaders – will make statements and respond to questions at the press conference.
